Tim Bosma told his wife he would be right back.
He was taking two guys out for a quick test drive in his Dodge Ram pickup when he left Monday night. They’d arranged to meet him at his rural Ancaster home after he’d posted a For Sale ad for the truck on Kijiji and Auto Trader.
The men had come all the way from Toronto, Bosma told his wife, Sharlene.
She got a quick look at the two visitors as the three men left, just before 9:30 p.m. — her husband dressed in dark blue jeans, work boots and a long-sleeved shirt.
She hasn’t seen him since.
“If it’s an unusual missing person, we are to be involved. This has unusual circumstances right at the onset, so we got involved … last night,” said homicide Sergeant Matt Kavanagh.
Police are now looking for the two men who left with Bosma, and who they believe are responsible for his disappearance.
Both are described as white men in their early to mid-20s.
The first is about 6-foot-1 and 170 to 180 pounds and unshaven with short, light to medium brown hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved orange shirt with running shoes.
The second is around 5-foot-9 with a small to medium build. He had dark hair and had a red, hooded sweatshirt pulled up over his head.
Bosma had told his wife they were from Toronto, police said.
It’s unclear how the men arrived at the home, though posts on social media suggest the two were dropped off by a third man in another vehicle.
“It is possible other people were involved, we know nothing about those people,” Kavanagh said.
The truck a 2007 black Dodge Ram 3500 pickup with licence plate number 726-7ZW — has been flagged to border agencies, and alerts have gone out to police forces across the region.
Police believe it was the truck, not Bosma, the suspects were after.
There has been no sign of the truck since Monday. Bosma had his cellphone with him, police said, but it has since been turned off.
Hundreds of well-wishers have posted messages of hope and encouragement on social media since news of his disappearance broke Tuesday.
“Please pray for my family ... Tim has a wife and baby girl that needs him here,” Stephanie Bosma Brooksbank wrote on Facebook Wednesday.
Few details were available about Bosma Wednesday. The family lives in a big new house on Trinity Road in Ancaster. The couple — married just three years — and their child are members of the Ancaster Christian Reformed Church.
Through a family friend, Bosma’s family declined to speak to the media Wednesday.
His face was splashed on social media again on Wednesday, as family and friends scrambled to get the word out. Flyers were delivered across the GTA, and dozens of trucks were parked out front of the family’s home as volunteers combed the neighbourhood.
Police, as well as the canine unit, were also actively searching the rural area.
The investigation is ongoing.
